Background and purpose: patients in succession stroke units have better issues but it is not known wherefore We investigated the process of care in succession a stroke unit, an somewhat old care unit and a general medical ward. Methods: comparison of the three settings was by the agency of non-participant observation of 12 patients in each. Data were analysed using multi-level modelling arrangements Results: stroke unit patients exhausted more time out of bed and abroad of their bay or swing and had more opportunities for independence than patients in succession the medical ward. There were more observ attempts forward the stroke unit than upon the general medical ward to interact with stupid cognitively- or speech-impaired patients. thump unit patients spent more time with visitors. in the greatest degree of these aspects of care were also establish on the elderly care unit, where patients also exhausted less time asleep or 'disengaged', more time interacting with succors and were given appropriate help more frequently than those elsewhere. Stroke unit patients received les notice contact, were ignored and treated in a dehumanizing way more commonly and had more negative interactions or activities than those elsewhere. Conclusions: we have identified any aspects of the process of care which may help explain the improved issues on stroke units. These aspects were also observ in the somewhat old care unit.
